Health Notes

Losing weight and exercising may help prevent arthritis. As we have discussed recently, EGCG in green tea has been said to promote weight loss.

Omega-3 fatty acids may help slow down Alzheimer’s disease. Omega-3s are found in fish oil and in flax seed oil.

Also, it seems that troubled children have responded favorably when given fish oil. Wouldn’t it be great if that really worked? It’s worth a try. At least it is a natural remedy.

Gum disease is a chronic low-grade infection that can lead to many other problems, including diabetes, heart disease, etc. Of course if you have gum disease, you really need to see a periodontist – a type of doctor who deals with the problem. Something I’ve discovered recently is a mouthwash called Crest Pro-Health Rinse which is an alcohol free rinse that fights plaque, gingivitis, and bad breath. I used a bottle of this recently, and the next time I went for a cleaning, my dentist noticed the difference. I like the wintergreen flavor.

New research says that pregnant women who take vitamins may have babies with fewer brain tumors, etc. Gee, who wouldn’t want to prevent brain tumors? There are lots of vitamin supplements out there. Pregnancy can be a time of anxiety anyway. Why not eliminate some of that if we can?

According to research, taking magnesium supplements appears to reduce the risk of heart disease. Of course you can take magnesium by itself if you want to, or there are lots of other supplements available to support cardiovascular health.
