The Best Life

I ran across an interesting magazine called Best Life. They have an interesting approach to things for men, and some really good articles.

This article gives ten ways to “Stifle Stress, Sleep Soundly.” I agree with a lot of the recommendations, but I am definitely not going to drink a glass of milk before bed, or at any other time of the day for that matter. I like milk, but I don’t need those calories or that fat and cholesterol.

This article is about LDL, HDL, Lp(a) cholesterol and niacin. It has some interesting information.

This article has a very good discussion of inflammation in your arteries, along with recommendations on what to do about it, including drinking green tea instead of coffee, eating eggplant and curry, as well as taking omega-3 fatty acids or eating fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, or herring. They also say that if you have to eat steak, have a small one, lots of vegetables, and a glass of red wine. You know, a lot of men’s magazines wouldn’t have recommendations like that. This is one that seems willing to go against popular trends occasionally because it’s the right thing to do for your health.

This article is the reason I checked out Best Life in the first place. Apparently muscadine grapes are supposed to have a lot of resveratrol. This is not a secret. I’ve known about it for some time. But this article actually mentions a North Carolina winery, Duplin Winery, which specializes in muscadine and scuppernong wines. And they recommend a glass of Duplin’s sweet Magnolia wine for its age-defying characteristics. I must say that I like Magnolia, but it is not sweet, and it does not have as much resveratrol as a wine like Scuppernong Blush has. For those of you who do not live in North Carolina, most of you can order a case of wine from Duplin Winery. (They ship to 28 states. Check here to see if yours is one of the lucky ones.) As I say, Magnolia is my favorite, but there are some other good wines too. (I think they have a special going now with Hatteras Red, which is sweet and good.)

Anyway, Best Life, as you can see, has some interesting articles. Check them out from time to time. (BTW, they have a lot of good articles on prostate cancer.)
